How do third-party delivery fees affect restaurant profitability?

Delivery fees reduce the dollars remaining from each order to cover labor, occupancy and other operating costs. Delivery contribution is delivery menu price minus food cost, commission, processing fees, promotions, packaging, flat platform fees and other variable costs entered. In-house contribution here deducts food and the optional in-house processing fee. Compare these dollar amounts before deciding whether a higher delivery price offsets the added costs.

Estimated monthly contribution multiplies the representative order by the monthly order count. It is an estimate, not a channel-wide result when order sizes or product mix vary. Labor, occupancy, taxes and fixed overhead are excluded. The price increase uses the in-house menu price as its base. A negative value means the matching delivery price is below the in-house price. Markup compares a price increase with the base price; contribution margin compares dollars left with the selling price.
